There are many reasons we chose Asheville for the Medipreneurs Summit. Asheville is a city in Western North Carolina’s magical Blue Ridge Mountains. Western North Carolina has long been a center for holistic healing, and Asheville itself has become known as a health care mecca. The city is touted in many publications as one of the best cities in the U.S. for a variety of reasons:

  • In the book, “The Geography of Bliss”, author Eric Weiner, calls Asheville THE “happiest place in the United States.”
  • AARP Magazine calls it one of the “Best Places to Reinvent Your Life.”
  • The book “Cities Ranked & Rated, 2nd edition” (2007) ranked Asheville as number seven of over 400 metro areas in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Self magazine labeled it the “Happiest City for Women.”

“Asheville has long been a health care mecca, and it continues to be known for the quality and variety of its health care approaches–both traditional and alternative. The trend toward uniting the two in integrative medicine gives Asheville yet another approach, making it an even healthier place to live.”

THE ASHEVILLE PROJECT

The city is also home of The Asheville Project, a nationally recognized program considered an inspirational healthcare model. Medipreneurs Summit speaker, Dan Garrett, was one of the founders of The Asheville Project, and Medipreneur Co-Founder Dr. Anna Garrett managed the program for Mission Hospital. The program provides education and personal oversight for city employees with chronic health problems such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension and high cholesterol. The Asheville Project, elevated the role of pharmacists to better manage diabetes among its citizens.

The model is recognized by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and “has been incorporated into and adapted through the Foundation’s extensive research in diabetes and other chronic diseases.” The Asheville Project gave pharmacists the ability to develop thriving patient care services in their community pharmacies.

Lonely Planet describes Asheville best: “With its homegrown microbreweries, decadent chocolate shops and stylish New Southern eateries, Asheville is one of the trendiest small cities in the East. Glossy magazines swoon for the place. But don’t be put off by all the flash. At heart, Asheville is still an overgrown mountain town and it holds tight to its traditional roots.”

Extend your visit to take in the incredible view, go gallery hopping, antique shopping, hiking along the Appalachian Trail, a majestic ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway, eat the most amazing food made by world-renowned chefs, or listen to an eclectic mix of live music.

“From the depths of the ancient forests that blanket the Blue Ridge Mountains to the banks of the French Broad River, natural beauty is a constant backdrop for all the city’s happenings.”
